Aliah’s mother stood frozen in the bedroom doorway.

Several months later, Aliah was receiving regular medical care and emotional support.
The investigation into Mr. Bennett continued, and the school took steps to protect students and prevent him from contacting Aliah.
One afternoon, Aliah sat beside her mother in the living room.
